Population Health and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

This online course (from Sept 9 to Dec 1, 2019) is offered through the University of Victoria, Continuing Studies, in partnership with Population Data BC. This practical course is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to use a wide range of spatial data and analysis methods using ArcGIS. Topics include:
Basic concepts of spatial data as they apply to health data and population health applications.

  •  Major uses of GIS in population health.
  • Use of GIS to map health data.
  • Application of spatial techniques to analyze health data.
  • Interpretation of spatial approaches and methodology in population health.
