CRDCN’s response to the Globe and Mail series Canada in the dark

The CRDCN welcomes the light that this series shines on the importance of investing more in the collection of Canadian data, in facilitating access, and in ensuring its public availability to inform decisions of critical importance to Canadians. The CRDCN issued the following statement today to stress how the Network and Research Data Centres have been part of the solution for nearly two decades.

2019 International Metropolis Conference

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is organizing the 2019 International Metropolis Conference, the world's foremost gathering of migration experts, experts, government representatives, civil society and policy makers. The conference will take place on June 24 – 28, 2019 in Ottawa/Gatineau. The Call for proposals is now open and will close on March 4, 2019. 2021 Census of Population Dissemination Consultation

Statistics Canada is conducting a public consultation on the 2021 Census of Population from January 15 to March 31, 2019. We encourage you to participate in this online consultation designed to give data users an opportunity to provide feedback on dissemination strategies used for the 2016 Census of Population. 2019 National Data Services Framework Summit

Join us on January 24 at the 2019 National Data Services Framework Summit in Ottawa where CRDCN Executive Director Martin Taylor will discuss data accessibility, the first FAIR principle. Organized by Research Data Canada, this forum is an opportunity for the Canadian research data management community to learn, collaborate, exchange ideas, and discuss common issues, with a goal of developing a shared understanding of the current Canadian data landscape and recommendations for future initiatives.

Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee scholarship program

The McGill Institute for Health and Social Policy (IHSP) is pleased to offer international summer internships through the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee scholarship program.  The goal of this national program is to create a “dynamic community of young global leaders across the Commonwealth”. It is an opportunity for senior undergraduate and graduate students at McGill to undertake summer internships aimed at exploring innovative and promising approaches to addressing key challenges to health and equity across the Commonwealth. Fellowship opportunities at Statistics Canada

Statistics Canada invites application for its Analytical Studies Research Fellowship which provides Ph.D. students currently working on their theses an opportunity to access microdata that is only available for use at Statistic Canada’s Ottawa headquarters. One fellowship lasting for nine to twelve months and carrying a $25,000 stipend is available for each division in the Analytical Studies Branch. Candidates must indicate which division they wish to work at and explain how their research would benefit from the knowledge and expertise of the research staff in the division.
