Income inequality in Canada

The House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance announced that it will study this question in April 2013. Those who wish to submit a brief to the Committee on this topic should do so no later than noon on Friday, April 5, 2013. Briefs, which should not exceed five pages in length, may be published by the House of Commons on the Committee’s Web site. Manitoba Will Hold Publication Consultations on Poverty Reduction Strategy

Manitobans from across the province are invited to participate in the consultation on the All Aboard strategy on poverty reduction and social inclusion adopted last year. Meetings will be held in March in Winnipeg, Brandon, Gimli, Dauphin, The Pas and Thompson. All details available here. (source:

Debating pension reform in Canada

In light of the on-going debate on pension reform in Canada, we wish to point out two recent pieces by researchers using RDC confidential microdata that can help inform the discussion. One by Frank Denton and Byron Spencer on age of pension eligibility in relation with gains in life expectancy and the other by Pierre Lefebvre, Philip Merrigan and Pierre-Carl Michaud on recent retirement patterns.
