AG-CAL (Apprenticeship Grants and Canada Apprenticeship Loan)

Apprenticeship Grants (AG) and Canada Apprenticeship Loan (CAL) is now available in Research Data Centres across Canada.
The AG and CAL are part of Statistic Canada’s Education and Labour Market Longitudinal Platform (ELMLP).
Statistics Canada and Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) are pleased to announce the availability of microdata from the Apprenticeship Grants (AG) and Canada Apprenticeship Loan (CAL) administrative records on recipients.
Apprenticeship Grants
The Apprenticeship Grants (AG) dataset contains information on the Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) and the Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG) applications, covering the period from April 1, 2007 to November 27, 2017. Each record on this database represents an application for an AIG or an ACG. Information included in this database documents whether or not each application was approved, closed due to incomplete information or rejected. Individuals can appear multiple times in these data as they apply for multiple grants (i.e. AIG level 1, AIG level 2, or ACG). Individuals may also appear multiple times on this file as they may have submitted multiple applications for the same level or for multiple trades.
Canada Apprenticeship Loan
The CAL data contains information only on approved CAL disbursements, from January 2, 2015 to December 31, 2017. The data includes one disbursement per period of technical training for each person. Each person can receive a separate loan for up to five training periods. As a result, a person can have up to five records in this dataset.
Linkable microdata
The AG and CAL data can be directly linked to each other, and to the Registered Apprenticeship Information System (RAIS).
