New Statistic Act

On December 13, the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, welcomed Royal Assent of a bill that reinforces Statistics Canada’s independence through legislative amendments to the Statistics Act. Among other targeted amendments, the new Act enables the appointment of the Chief Statistician by the Governor in Council to a renewable term of not more than five years — the Chief Statistician may only be removed for cause — and creates the Canadian Statistics Advisory Council to advise the Minister and Chief Statistician on the overall quality of the national statistics system and publish an annual report. The Parliamentary Internship Programme is a great opportunity to learn firsthand about the work that goes on in the House of Commons. You will write speeches, briefing notes, research reports, and questions for question period. You will visit your MP's riding, author innovative research papers on Parliament and the work of MPs, and take part in unique legislative study tours within Canada and abroad. CRDCN researchers will have free access to Esri Canada’s GIS technology

We are pleased to announce that Esri Canada will provide researchers in all RDCs free access to its ArcGIS technology. ArcGIS is a complete geographic information system (GIS) that delivers powerful geoprocessing tools enabling advanced spatial visualization of a broad array of data. It will allow researchers to conduct different types of analyses and to overlay various types of data on a digital map, including health, socio-demographic and household survey data, allowing them to quickly produce high-quality print and online maps to share research results with the public.
