Health Inequalities

Recently, the QICSS held an international conference where dozens of researchers from here and abroad met to discuss the impact of social policies on health inequalities. You can now watch online the videos of the presentations given during this meeting. Among the highlights, we wish to point out the presentations of the first panel in which Sylvie Michaud, Daniel Fuller et Denis Hamel discussed the implications for health inequalities research of the abolition of the Canadian long-form census and its replacement by the National Household Survey.

Revision of the tax system in Quebec

In his recent budget, the Quebec Government announced the creation of a committee to review Quebec’s corporate and personal tax systems. Carole Vincent, author of the CRDCN knowledge synthesis on the gender wage gap, and Professor Pierre-Carl Michaud, user of the QICSS facility, have been appointed on the committee. The Committee will submit its report in December 2014.

Public consultations

The Government of British Columbia is launching a series of community consultations on issues facing people with disabilities and how government, businesses and communities can better support their participation and integration. The comments received will inform the development of a White Paper which will form the foundation of a Summit to be held in June 2014. Until February 14, the Quebec Government is also holding a prebudget consultation online.
