Building an infrastructure for evidence-based social policy-making

In the latest issue of the magazine Policy Options, Annie McEwen and Geranda Notten argue that the federal government lacks the data infrastructure necessary to meet its budget commitment to adopt evidence-based decision-making. In order to fill this gap, they call upon the federal government to create of an arm’s-length agency to report on Canadians’ well-being and social policy outcomes — a Social Indicators Observatory (SIO).
